According to DGR 13/2021 resolution of the Veneto Region, in 2022 the Pro Loco/Consortia of Veneto were involved in a project called "E20.it - Eventi inclusivi e turistici".
Partners: Unpli Treviso (project leader), Unpli Belluno, Unpli Padova, Unpli Venezia, Unpli Verona, Unpli Vicenza, Unpli Rovigo
Goal of the project: to raise awareness about the accessibility of events
The project was divided into several actions:
- mapping and reporting of local associations and municipalities of Veneto Region that organise events where accessibility can be enhanced
- creating an awareness-raising training course for managers of Pro Loco and associations
- drafting a best practices handbook for accessible events
- designing accessible events through co-planning
Village For All proved to be the ideal partner to develop this initiative. It is a network that for over 10 years has been committed to the mission of offering a tourist experience suitable for all needs, making it ideal for families with children, the elderly and those with specific dietary requirements. They are also well-acquainted with the needs of people with visual, auditory, and motor disabilities, as well as intellectual disabilities.
Village For All's contribution at Livelet focused on some key points, involving the association La Girobussola, which specialises in creating itineraries to explore the world without using sight. Together we created a tactile map of the entire open-air museum, a tactile map of the pile-dwelling village area and a tactile map of the 3 pile-dwellings. Each map is equipped with a QR code and a Near Field Wireless Communication (NFC) linked to the tactile exploration guide.
These tactile maps were printed using Minolta microcapsule technology, to highlight the main points of interest within the museum (entrance, reconstructed village location, walking paths, picnic areas, restrooms, etc.), to describe the layout of the pile-dwelling village and to provide an idea of the interior of each house.
The map showing the entire museum is in A3 format and printed in colour to ensure easy access for people with visual disabilities, while the others are in A4 format and printed in black and white. The exploration tactile guides are texts which describe the raised design of each map, serving as an "extended" legend to support the reader step by step in interpreting the map. The texts are embedded in a webpage owned by Livelet, accessible via link provided in an NFC tag and QR Code on the back of each tactile map.
Each user can access the text simply by navigating with their personal smartphone.
La Girobussola has also printed a guide in braille and enlarged print of the open-air museum, drafting a text that inclusively covers the main topics discussed during the guided tour.
The museum educators and guides were trained on the cognitive and perceptual universe of the visual disabilities, including some insights on support and the effective use of the tools developed during the project.
We are working to remove some architectural barriers and enhance the park with new furnishings aimed at ensuring more comfort for visitors with motor disabilities.
